A 20 minutes drive from George airport on the N2 towards Knysna will bring you in the vicinity of the dunes in Wilderness. The approach to Wilderness from Cape Town is a breathtaking sight. The coastal highway rounds a bend to reveal a vast blue ocean racing at a long sandy beach, flanked by the green Outeniqua mountains. Drive past the Caltex garage on the N2 and turn right at the sign that says 8th Avenue in Wilderness East. Turn right at the T junction and continue west until you get to house 897 (La Retraite). If you are driving on the N2 from the east (Knysna), turn left at the sign that says 8th Avenue at the outskirts of Wilderness. Turn right at the T junction and continue west until you get to house 897.
La Retraite is situated on the dune in Wilderness-East, an exclusive area that is renowned for its privacy and beautiful beach with unique cliff formations. It is close to the sea: one can hear the caressing sound of waves and walk to a secluded beach in five minutes. As we are located on the southern slope of the largest dune at the point where the beach road is the furthest away from the highway, we are fortunate to have no traffic noise.
